Cole Ragans Trade

Rangers-Royals Trade: Cole Ragans Traded to Kansas City

Former Rangers Pitcher Finds Success with Royals

Ragans Shines for Omaha Storm Chasers

In a move that surprised many, the Texas Rangers traded pitcher Cole Ragans to the Kansas City Royals in June 2023. The deal sent Ragans and Roni Cabrera to Kansas City in exchange for Aroldis Chapman.

Ragans, a 24-year-old left-handed pitcher, had shown promise in the Rangers organization. He made his Major League debut in 2022 and pitched in 16 games for Texas. However, he struggled with control and posted a 6.59 ERA.

Since joining the Royals, Ragans has found a new level of success. He has been a key part of the Omaha Storm Chasers' rotation and has excelled in Triple-A. In 12 starts for the Storm Chasers, Ragans has a 3.21 ERA and has struck out 81 batters in 69 innings.

Ragans' performance has not gone unnoticed. The Royals have promoted him to the Major Leagues and he is expected to make his debut for Kansas City on Tuesday.

The Rangers, meanwhile, have struggled in the aftermath of the trade. They are currently last in the American League West and Chapman has not been the same dominant force he once was.

The trade of Cole Ragans is a reminder that even the most promising prospects can struggle to adjust to the Major Leagues. However, it is also a testament to the Royals' player development system. Ragans has found success in Kansas City, and he is now one of the best young pitchers in the Minor Leagues.
